  2. Amber Haggeman Pam Lychner JeanneClery Megan Kanka Adam Walsh Over the past 20 years, several high profile child abductions, sexual assaults, and murders created a continuing expansion of legislation and laws regarding sex offender management Jacob Wetterling Poly Klass Jessica Lunsford

  3. Sexual assault and abuse causes great harm to victims and our communities, so society is rightfully concerned about it. We all want to protect our families and communities as safety is one of the most basic, fundamental needs of mankind.

  4. We can’t do it alone, nor is it realistic to believe we can. We just don’t have the manpower or the resources to effectively manage this diverse population of offenders without collaborating with other stakeholders.

  5. We have to join forces with those who have an investment in public safety and ending sexual violence. This collaboration can and should include: • Other law enforcement agencies (including municipal, county, state and federal) • Victims and Victim Advocates • NGO’s • Probation, Parole and Community Corrections Officers • Treatment Providers (Sexual deviancy and substance abuse) • Corrections personnel (Pre-release and post-release) • The Community • Industry

  7. Collaboration between Law Enforcement, Supervision Officers and others for Community Notification and Public Education

  8. SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND TRAINING IS A MUST!

  11. Collaboration Definition: Expanding capacity through meaningful partnerships to achieve a common goal that cannot be reached effectively alone. .

  12. Collaboration Understand roles and responsibilities and how they complement each other Decrease duplication of efforts and maximize resources and staff Employ strategies and interventions supported by best practices

  13. Collaboration Maintain current and consistent information on offenders Send unified message to offenders, victims, and the public Prevents victims and offenders from “falling through the cracks”
