Based on discussions, my observations so far • UCVM is an excellent community • Robust DVM and graduate education programs • High research intensity and impactful research • Our stakeholders express satisfaction with UCVM • Some expressions of fatigue • Develop a new strategic plan • Review and revise our curriculum • Grow and foster a culture of collegiality, inclusiveness and transparency • Cohesive teams to capitalize on new opportunities • Grow our unique identity within and outside of University of Calgary

  5. Framework Integration of simpler and collegial administration with advanced physical infrastructure is critical to realize the potential of students, staff, and faculty. Excellence in research, teaching, and service is a multi-step, evolving, and collaborative process. Solidifying the foundation and sustainable growth are two of the keys. Why Do Strategic Planning? • Alignment with the mission • Identify core competencies and values • Set priorities, stronger operations, and work towards common goals • Become better at handling of critical events • Define and refine our contextual place • Develop an inclusive culture • To become the first mover or a quick follower in innovation • Plan and execute thoughtful disruptions to advance the mission

UCVM Strategic Planning Process • Consultative and thoughtful process • Nimble and efficient • Multiple opportunities to participate • Online survey: Deadline November 23, 2016 • Retreat(s): December 03, 2016 • Student competition for innovative ideas: Deadline November 30, 2016 • Focus groups as needed • Written submissions by individuals or groups around themes • Individuals, groups and departments can ask for special meetings Report due by March 15, 2017 Release to the community on March 30, 2017
