  1. Civil Air Patrol Wellness/Resilience Suicide Prevention Working Group 9 August 2019

  2. Charter The National Commander has identified resiliency and suicide prevention as a problem we must focus efforts on to come up with a plan and a program to support our members and their families. In the last year at least 3 cadets (may be more) have taken their own lives.

  4. Status • September national CD lesson on the 5-pillar wellness plan of CAP. (2019 draft approved) • October "Resiliency Down Day" – Wingman concept • Taken all input and modified programs for the future • Created draft CAPP – introducing the 5 Pillars of Wellness • 2019 – Focus will be on the 2nd Pillar – Body • October activity will have separate parts (Cadets & SM)

  5. To Do’s • Working on a Command Climate Survey to be sent to all members (2-3rdQtr 19) • The survey and materials have been reviewed by the committee. On hold by Gen Smith due to length • Working on activities focused around fitness • “Fun” competitions among units – Plan for “Walking to Mars” has been approved by Gen Smith • Position Paper explaining it is available for review. • NHQ Staff and Working Group will Beta test the program in May-July 19 (walked 2076 miles so far) • National walking activities including a walking event at the National Conference in Baltimore (coord w/BT) • Holding a panel discussion forum for feedback and your ideas in Baltimore • Coordinating the Wingman principle across CAP’s professional development • Adding Psychological 1st Aid in RST and in TLC (1 Oct 2019) • Using both in person and distance learning options for training of facilitators • Each year – 5 year cycle, introduce a separate pillar always with a reminder about suicide prevention.

To Do’s • Working with CAP NHQ Marketing on: • Marketing plan for the walk to Mars – Draft in Catherine’s hands • Video introducing the program to members • Social media interaction • Working with CAP NHQ Philanthropy on: • Coordination with new NFL Partnership • Possible awards / sponsors for members and units • Draft language for regulations for Chaplains and Health Services to mandate program into the future.
