Is 3T peak – 3T/s a dream ? D.Tommasini

This article discusses the coil design and material considerations for R&D on superconducting wire for achieving 3T/s - 3T peak magnetic field. It explores different wire configurations, such as NbTi-Cu and CuMn matrices, and investigates the distribution of losses within the wire.

  5. R&D on wires for 3T/s – 3T peak We may aim at the following distribution of losses Filament hysteresis : 50% Interstrand resistance : 15 % Matrix coupling : 15 % Structure : 20 % 2006 R&D Specify and procure one billet with filament size ~ 3 microns, Cu matrix Explore CuMn matrix Explore high interstrand resistance versus core (stability, long term behaviour)
