  1. Detecting Psychoactive Drugs in the Developmental Stages of Psilocybe cyanescencs Gross, Susan T. J Forensic Sci 2000;45(3): 527–537.

  2. Why this is important • Clandestine Grow Operations • Law Enforcement Personnel • Forensic Chemists

  3. Introduction • Psilocybe Cyanescens • Psilocybin/Psilocin • Various Stages of Growth

  4. Methods • Mushrooms grown from spore stage in sterile conditions. • Some were grown in dark and some in light • TLC of various extracts • GC/MS of various extracts

  5. Preparation of Samples • Standard Psilocybin and Psilocin obtained • Mycelium Knot Samples soaked in MeOH • All other Extracts cleaned w/ H2SO4, washed with Chloroform. Made Basic, psilocybin/psilocin extracted with Chloroform, and reconstituted with MeOH

  6. Results

  7. Results

  8. Conclusions • Psychoactive Drugs weren’t detected in spores or mycelium • Both Psilocybin and Psilocin were detected in mycelium knots and the fruiting body of the mushroom • Light effects growth of P. cyanescens but not detection or content of psychoactives
