  2. Issue: • Updated Policy guidance is required with respect to the amount, submission timing and release of NRFL security deposits.

  3. Background: • The minister may require the holder of a ML, that is non replaceable, to provide security for the performance of an obligation to establish a free growing stand pursuant to the Security for Forest and Range Practice Liabilities Regulation. • The minister must give notice as to; When to pay; How much and in What form.

  4. Current Discussions: • Economic viability of some short term licences (eg: FN) • Consistency of application (principle based) • Security determination (influenced by risk or not) • Basis of determination (CP vs Licence) • Timing of payment and refund

  5. What’s Next • Rob Bowden (RTEB tenures forester) chairing provincial committee tasked with providing updated guidance through policy for the DDM’s consideration in their determination regarding the level of security and the administration of any requested securities.
