Understanding Puberty: Hormonal Changes and Their Effects on Development

DESCRIPTION

Puberty is a significant period marked by hormonal changes initiated by the pituitary gland in the brain. For girls, typically starting between ages 9-16, estrogen and progesterone lead to breast development, the onset of menstruation, hips widening, and increased body hair. Boys, starting around ages 11-21, experience surges in testosterone, which results in enlarged reproductive organs, sperm production, broader shoulders, and body hair growth. Both genders undergo height and weight increases, along with acne and voice changes during this transformative stage.
