  1. What Scooter Parts Do You Need for a Custom Build? Buying a custom scooter is the best way to get the right scooter designed specifically for you. You are probably wondering exactly what you need and whether all scooter parts are compatible. There are eight scooter parts you need to build your custom scooter and start enjoying the great exercise this growing sport brings into your life. Let's start right at the beginning with the deck, which is what you stand on. The best way to custom build a scooter is start with the deck and then continue your build from there. You need to consider the width, length and whether it should be boxed end or not. Speak to your scooter specialist to identify what is going to be best based on your needs. The forks have two jobs on the custom scooter, they hold the bars, enabling you to turn them and they hold the front wheel. There are different forks you can choose from, HIC usually has oversized bars, while IHC has standard or aluminium bars. This is down to preference and what you find more comfortable. Headsets help the bars spin smoothly, covering the bearings, dust cover and spacers. Headsets are usually universally compatible across a range of brands and have spacers for the forks, though some forks come with their own headset spacer. Now you would think wheels are fairly obvious, but there are a number of factors to take into consideration such as the diameter size, the rim type, the bearings and what deck and forks you need to support the diameter size of the wheel you want. Wheels range from 100mm to 125mm with rims ranging from spoked and hollow core to full core. The bars are a big consideration, as these are what you use to steer the scooter in the direction you want to go. When it comes to choosing the bars for your custom build you need to take material, width and height into consideration. It is important to remember that your bars and forks must be compatible. Next is the grips, which go onto the bars to give you a softer and stronger hold not eh bars. They are made of soft rubber and simply slide onto the bars. When choosing grips take thickness, softness and length into consideration. Don't forget about the grip take, which is used on the deck. Grip tape is like sandpaper and sticks to the deck to ensure your feet don't slip off the deck when performing tricks. You need to take the length, width, colour, design and grit thickness into consideration. Another big decision is to choose the compression or clamp system, which secures the bars to the forks. You need to take the outside diameter of your bars into consideration. Oversized clamps are best for oversized and aluminium bars, while standard clamps fit standard diameter bars.

  2. Some useful tips to take into consideration when it comes to your scooter parts for a custom builds is that headsets are usually common sizes and will fit on just about all decks on the market. Aluminium bars can be standard on the inside and oversized on the outside, so take diameters seriously. The majority of custom builds are made with aluminium bars and an oversized clamp. When you buy the grips, you will find they do come with bar ends. These scooter parts usually have two bar ends in them, one designed for aluminium bars and the other set for any other bars, you may have selected.
