Violent Incident Data • Cabarrus County Sheriff, Kannapolis Police Department, and Concord Police Department shared crime data • Focus offenses (homicide, aggravated assault, robbery and felony gun charges) committed in each respective jurisdiction • Timeframe: between January 2004 and June 2005.

  4. Offender Demographics – Sheriff’s Dept. • Race • Caucasian 155 (57.6%) • African American 80 (29.7%) • American Indian 1 (0.4%) • Unknown 33 (12.3%) • Sex • Male 210 (78.1%) • Female 41 (15.2%) • Unknown 18 (6.7%) • Average age of known offender = 28.0 years

  5. Offender Demographics – cont. • 31.2% of offenders arrested by Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Department reported a Concord address at the time of arrest. • 6.7% reported a Midland address at time of arrest. • 5.2% reported a Mt. Pleasant address. • 4.5% reported a Kannapolis address.

  6. Violent Offenses – Sheriff’s Dept. • 5 homicides, including non-negligent manslaughter offenses (2%) • 221 assault offenses (82%) • 32 robbery offenses (12%) • 11 offenses were sexual in nature (4%)

  8. Offender Demographics – cont. • 54.9% of offenders arrested in Kannapolis reported a Kannapolis address at the time of arrest. • 6.6% reported a Concord address at time of arrest. • 3.8% reported a Salisbury address.
