The Step Pyramid of Zoser, built around 2650 BC in Sakkarah by the architect Imhotep, stands as the oldest monumental stone structure known to man. The first pyramid built was the graded one of Zoser, which exists even today, in Sakkarah, the necropolis of Menphis.
