What do we know about complex change management? • A diverse group of people work together on the issue • Patronage is provided by the University for this work • Rewards provided for success • Champions / Sponsors actively involved • Time lines are in place, which require focused work within an achievable but challenging timeframe • Project teams are allowed to self-select and self-organise • Ownership and responsibility is engendered

Aims of Initiative • Reduce leave liability while maintaining sensitivity to work-life balance • Encourage ownership of leave management through a team approach at local level with champions (Heads/Deans) leading by example • Increase cross-university sharing of ideas and enhance collegiality • Provide you with a reward for successfully completing you chosen project

  4. How it works • Form a team of your choosing • Some guidelines • Decide the project / your objective • Develop performance indicators • Decide a reward • Monetary or non-monetary • Individual or group • Agreed by SDVC • Get started (Feb – August 2008)

  5. Team formation • Must benefit more than one work unit (eg 2 or more schools, 2 or more faculties, 2 or more units or sections, etc) • representation from the requisite areas • Will include both school/faculty and central administration representative/s. • At least 2 academics in the project team (if academics in your area).

  6. Other points • SDVC will champion this • Will talk to Deans • Share progress each UMG meeting (10 mins) • Co-operative not competitive • Final presentation in August • To share ideas • To get prizes • Lunch to celebrate

  7. Why do it? • Solve a worthwhile problem • Work with diverse group of people • Breaking down silos • Gives you profile in UWA • Can win a reward of your choosing and You have to deal with this issue anyway!

  8. Next steps Between now and February 2008 • Form a team using guidelines • Decide your project • Decide your indicators • Decide your reward • Start thinking and acting …. • Send outline (project, team, PI & rewards) to UMG Exec late January • Attend UMG Feb 2008 to launch
