Creativity training (1) • Torrance (1972): 20 years research on 142 studies showing that creativity training could enhance creativity. • Legos (has been used by IDEO, Center for Creative Leadership etc) could train the visualised thinking like in ‘value chain’ and ‘process engineering’. • Beside Legos there are Play-Doh, dramatic improvisation, singing, painting, dominoes, wood blocks, rubber bands etc.

Creativity training (2) • Creativity consulting for biz started at 1970s • Tudor Rickards held workshops for executives at the Manchester Business School in 1971 • Horst Geschka studied corporate creativity at the Battelle Institute, Frankfurt in 1970. • Brainstorming is the most popular training method. Brainstorming than has been developed as Creative Problem Solving (CPS) by Osborn, Pernes etc in 1950s. • Sawyer: Creativity training is more focus on individual creative ability rather than changing the culture and organisation.

  10. CONCEPT • A technique of generating, refining and developing ideas that can be undertaken by individuals, but is more effective when undertaken by a group of people. • Rawlinson (1981): • To get as much ideas as possible. • By group of people. • In a short duration.

  11. Basic principles • Aim for quantity of ideas. • No criticism and discussion on ideas. • Every member should throw their on ideas based on the imagination. • Not more than 10 members. • Duration: 15-30 minutes. • Ideas than could be categorised, combined, modified, developed and polished.

  12. Aims • To produce IDEA beyond logical barrier peacefully and joyfully. • To get QUALITY IDEA practically, economically and effectively.

  17. Principles • Networking the ideas with different colours (at least 3) • Thicker line for the more important ideas • Keywords or used icon/symbol • Start from the middle of the paper/white board/flip chart
