  2. GALATIANS • AUTHOR: Paul • RECIPIENTS: Church of Galatia • DATE: about AD 55-56 • PURPOSE: 1. Defend the Gospel. 2. Expose & condemn false teaching. 3. Show true purpose of the Law. 4. Tell believers to walk in the Spirit. • THEME: Christian liberty defended.

  4. Peter denied 5 Doctrines • Unity of the church (Gal 2:14). • Justification by faith (Gal 2:15, 16). • Freedom from the Law (Gal 2:17, 18). • The very Gospel itself (Gal 2:19, 20). • The grace of God (Gal 2:21).

  5. PURPOSE OF THE LAW • To reveal sin (Gal 3:19; Rom 3:20). • To restrain sin (1 Tim 1:19, 20). • To show terrible nature of sin (Rom 7:8-13). • That sin might increase (Rom 5:20). • To prove every man a sinner (Rom 3:19). • To lead us to Christ (Gal 3:23, 24).
