  2. What Are Constellations? • Constellations are areas of space around a group of stars that connect and make patterns. • Constellations are named after gods and characters in mythology. • There are 88 constellations in the sky.

How Do Constellations Help People? • In the past, farmers watched the constellations to know which season it was so they would know when to plant and harvest the crops. • People used the constellations to guide their way on seas and oceans to their destination. • Today the constellations help you find other objects in the sky.

  4. What Is The Lyra? • It is a constellation shaped like a lyre (small harp). • Lyra is small but easy to see because of the star, Vega. Vega is the fifth brightest star. • July through August is the best time to see the star, Vega.

  5. What Is Aquila The Eagle? • Aquila is a big eagle. You can see Aquila on summer nights. • Aquila the Eagle’s brightest star is the Altair. • Altair is one of the three stars in the Summer Triangle.

  6. What Is The Most Popular Constellation? • The most popular constellation is Orion. You can only see Orion in the Winter. • In Greek mythology, Orion was a boastful, vain warrior.

  7. What Is The Hydra • Hydra is a fierce serpent that can have a lot of heads. • The Hydra is the largest constellation. • Some stories say that the Hydra had five or six heads, and others say that the Hydra had a hundred.

  8. What Constellation Is Seen The Most? • The Ursa Major is the most common seen constellation. • The Ursa Major looks like a bear. Most stargazers will find the Ursa Major in the northern part of the sky.
