  1. Unit 1 Achieving Results through Teamwork Facilitator Support Materials for Achieving Results through Teamwork

  2. Unit Aim The aim of this unit is for learners to develop knowledge and understanding of strategies to achieve results through teamwork and to develop skills in using tools to plan teamwork related tasks. This unit is 30 Guided Learning Hours

  3. Unit Description Being results-oriented with a high drive to meet objectives and to encourage this within a team is an essential skill at higher levels of an organisation and being willing to continually improve personal performance is linked to this. Achieving results also means being able to make sound decisions, even under extreme pressure, and be able to communicate clearly and taking the lead where this is appropriate. At this level, the learner will have a range of tools at their fingertips to aid personal and group effectiveness and should be able to understand how to use these and to present these articulately.

  4. Unit Description Continued • This unit focuses on developing a range of techniques to equip the learner to effectively manifest best practice behaviours in the workplace. Specifically, the learner will learn how to use appropriate tools and criteria to evaluate group and work processes, services and the stated deliverable components in order to achieve better results. It will be important to challenge any inefficient work processes and offer constructive alternatives.

  5. Unit Description Continued • The learner is expected to be able to obtain appropriate information or support, which will help the decision making process for the team. There will also be a focus on determining long-term strategic direction and establishing effective systems for assigning, managing and tracking progress.

  6. Unit Description Continued • In the first part of the unit, learners explore strategies for achieving results through teamwork. Tools for planning teamwork and evaluating group processes are investigated and the role of risk analysis considered. Learners consider how to enable teams to achieve results by exploring how to manage inefficient work processes and actions to make following evaluations. • Learners use planning tools and analyse risk in planning a team task in the second part of the unit.

  7. Learning Outcome 1: Understandstrategies to achieve results through teamwork • Amplification of the Learning Outcome: • Tools for planning teamwork: SMART targets (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic goals, time bound goals); time management chart; Gantt chart; critical path analysis and Belbin team • The role of risk analysis in planning to achieve results through teamwork: brainstorm to identify all possible problems/risks eg external, internal, from self, from group; risk analysis tools; have strategies to manage risk eg plan contingencies; risk management charts; problem solving strategies; seek solutions and work to team strengths

  8. Amplification of the Learning Outcome Continued • Compare methods for evaluating group processes: Ishikawa diagram, force field analysis, Pareto analysis and SWOT analysis (strengths, weakness, opportunities, threats) • Skills and behaviours for achieving results through teamwork:self-motivation eg achievement drive, optimism, persistence; social skills eg collaboration; self-regulation eg conscientiousness, meets commitments, focused under pressure; self-awareness eg self-confidence, self-assured and decisive

  9. Amplification of the Learning Outcome Continued • How to manage inefficient work processes: regular evaluation of objectives eg to identify when things are not working within the group, when or team is not working to strengths; team review to discuss issues; offer constructive alternatives; offer and receive feedback; positive attitude; lead others to deal with issues and encourage the team to work to strengths

  10. Amplification of the Learning Outcome Continued • Actions to enable teams to achieve results following evaluation: measure against objectives; use evaluation tools; stages in evaluation eg description (What happened?), analysis (What went well? What was less successful?), clarification (Were goals met? What needs to be done differently?), action (What needs to be done next?) egset new goals and objectives, use different tools for planning, improve identification and management of inefficient processes and review risk analysis

  11. Assessment Criteria for Learning Outcome 1 Assessment Criteria 1.1 Evaluate the appropriateness of a range of tools for planning teamwork Open discussion with Learners 1.2 Analyse the role of risk analysis in planning to achieve results through teamwork Open discussion with Learners 1.3 Compare methods for evaluating group processes Open discussion with Learners

  12. Assessment Criteria for Learning Outcome 1 Continued • 1.4 Analyse the skills and behaviours for achieving results through teamwork • Open discussion with Learners • 1.5 Explain how to manage inefficient work processes • Open discussion with Learners • 1.6 Explain actions to enable teams to achieve results following evaluation • Open discussion with Learners

  13. Learning Outcome 2: Be able to plan teamwork Amplification of the Learning Outcome: Plan a teamworktask: information researched for the plan eg web based resources; technology, equipment, resources; new technology, systems; planning tools eg SMART targets, time management chart, Gantt chart, critical path analysis; risk assessment eg risk analysis tools, contingencies and risk management charts

  14. Assessment Criteria for Learning Outcome 2 Assessment Criteria 2.1 Present a plan for a teamwork task to include: Information researched for the plan Use of a planning tool Risk Assessment
