  3. System Overview • The Kaypro A1000 notebook is a Pentium 4 class notebook with a 14.1” TFT LCD display • It uses standard Pentium 4 desktop socket 478 processors, instead of the Pentium 4-M (Mobile) CPUs • The main difference is the P4 desktop CPUs are commodity CPUs, while the P4-M are more expensive and comes default with 512K L2 cache • The Kaypro A1000 will be offer in a Celeron/1.7GHz (128K), P4/1.6GHz (256K) and P4/2.0A (512K) configuration • It uses the Intel 845D chipset and is powered by DDR266 memory • Video is ATI Radeon M6P w/ 32MB of dedicated memory

  4. Target Market • The target market of the Kaypro A1000 is the education, home, or business market segment that wants an affordable yet powerful and expandable notebook • The Kaypro A1000 is a viable desktop replacement, since it can scale up to P4/2.0A GHz and 1GB of DDR266 memory • This notebook is intended for users who want the mobility and convenience of a notebook without giving up the performance of a high-end desktop

  5. Selling Points • The four main selling features of the Kaypro A1000 are as follows: • 1. Performance -- Leading edge performance w/ up to P4/2.0A GHz CPU (currently, P4-M maxes out at 1.8GHz) -- Fast ATI Radeon M6P 32MB video (most notebooks use a shared video memory architecture or only come with 8MB or 16MB) -- DDR266 for the highest possible notebook memory bandwidth (previous generation of notebooks are still using PC133 SDRAM)

  6. Selling Points (cont.) • 2. Full Feature Communication and I/O Ports -- The notebook offers a wide array of communication and I/O ports -- LAN 10/100Mbps is standard -- Modem 56K is standard -- Firewire IEEE1394 is standard for video capturing/editing -- Dual USB 1.1 ports is standard -- Wireless 802.11b is an optional module -- COM port, PS/2 port, Bluetooth Interface ready -- This mean the notebook is able to connect to almost any type of network or input devices available in the market today

  7. Selling Points (cont.) • 3. Expandability -- Since it uses standard P4 socket 478 desktop CPUs, it is easy to upgrade the CPU to higher clock speeds -- Modular optical drive bay allows you to change or upgrade from CD-ROM to CD-RW or DVD-ROM to combo DVD/CDRW in a matter of seconds -- Two DDR266 SODIMM slots allows you to upgrade the memory capacity to a maximum of 1.0GB DDR266 with 2 x 512MB DDR266 SODIMMs • 4. Affordability Compared with the P4 notebooks in the market, Kaypro Notebook has a definite price advantage over P4-Mobile notebooks from Tier 1 manufacturers such as Dell, Compaq, Fujitsu, and HP
