  1. Display Board Requirements

  2. Problem/Question • A statement of the problem • Basically, the question you are asking “Do the phases of the moon effect the amount of rainfall?”

  3. Hypothesis • IF I do this THEN we think this will happen BECAUSE

  4. Abstract • (200-250 words)A summarization of the key points and an overview of how the investigation was conducted. • An abstract does not give details about the materials used unless it greatly influenced the procedure or had to be developed to do the investigation. • Only include procedures by a student

  5. Data • Charts, graphs, tables, pictures • At least one graph is required • It is recommended you also include a data table. • If you have a lot of data, only include averages

  6. Procedures • Detailed list of steps needed to perform the experiment. This list is in PRESENT TENSE not PAST TENSE. Don’t say #1. We did…. Say #1. First do this… • Must be in a numbered list format

  7. Materials • A list of the materials required for your experiment. • You must include amounts and units (mL, km, grams, etc.)

  8. Variables • Independent and Dependent Variables

  9. Constants/Controls • All of the elements of the project you are keeping the same

  10. Results • This section should provide key results that lead directly to the conclusions you have drawn. • It should not give too many details about the results nor include tables or graphs • This section is the description of your observations of the results • “During my experiment, I observed… • Approximately 1 paragraph

  11. Conclusions • Conclusions from investigations should be described briefly. • The summary paragraph should reflect on the process and possibly state some applications and extensions of the investigation • “Based on our results, we concluded that our hypothesis was correct/incorrect..” and “If we did this again…” or “to further test this hypothesis we would…”

  12. Other display board rules and tips: • Be sure to credit all photographs. (Put a label on the board somewhere that says “Photos taken by…”) • Photographs should not include faces of individuals other than you. • Do not include any edible items on your board. • Do not include any small objects that may fall off your board. • Items on display with your project, but not attached to the board, must be approved by your Science teacher and Mrs. Leone. Ex. Samples of the experiment or any technology.

  13. Label (Pg 36) • All boards must have this label with your name and information filled out. • To determine the category your project is in, refer to pages 37-38 in your workbook.

  14. Other suggestions from me… • All font should be no larger than 16pt and no smaller than 12 pt in order to be legible. • Do not use fonts or headers that make it difficult to read. • Use cardstock instead of construction paper if possible. Paste the computer print outs on the cardstock to make a border around each item. • Use rubber cement • Cut in straight lines • Use contrasting and attractive colors. Avoid colors that strain your eyes.
