  1. Lightspeed is a web-blocking and filtering software program providing safe online security for educational users. http://www.lightspeedsystems.com/

  2. Lightspeed: Secure Web Filter The Lightspeed web filter provides educational users with a secure interface for web browsing. The software blocks sites based on a number of considerations and criteria. There may be sites that are of educational value which receive this blocked status.

  3. The “Access Denied” screen may occur when web browsing. WCPS Staff has the option to authenticate their account with their GroupWise login. Staff may additionally override the content filter by using their GroupWise login.

  4. Authenticating your Account Login using your GroupWise username and password

  5. Overriding the Content Filter • On this screen, WCPS staff has the option to override the domain or the category. • If the domain is selected, there is a possibility that some of the site content may not be visible. • If the category is selected, all site content, except ads, should be visible, but the whole category is open and unblocked for the time the user has specified. • This is only on the individual computer that is being used at that time. The drop down menu allows for up to 2 hours of override time.

  6. Recommendations for Use • Staff should override only appropriate educational sites. Please use your best professional judgment when unblocking a site for classroom or individual use. • Staff should not override the content filter for student use. • As a staff member you have different viewing privileges than a student. Content that is accessible for Staff may not be accessible by students. Students do not have rights to override any blocked content. • If the site is to be used a number of times, override may not be the solution. You may want to utilize the option to submit the site for review. • If the site remains blocked after authentication and override, then it has been categorized as a site that is in violation of the WCPS Internet Acceptable Use Policy.

  7. Submit a Site for Review Step 1: Complete the submit for review screen. All requests are reviewed by LightSpeedpersonnel. You should receive an email reply approving or denying your request. Step 2: If LightSpeed has denied your request please email a similar request to the WCPS Lightspeed Administrator if you feel that the site is blocked unnecessarily.

  8. Lightspeed: Email Spam Filter All incoming GroupWise email is filtered for spam. The system sends a Mail Summary daily to each WCPS Staff member’s inbox. The email summary will show what incoming emails have been flagged as spam and diverted from delivery. From this summary, users can choose to allow or block future emails from these senders.

  9. How to Manage Your Mail Summary Open your GroupWise account. In your messages received, you will see a Mail Summary. Click and open the Summary…. Each summary is comprised of the previous day’s incoming email.

  10. The summary provides the number of messages which were classified as spam, virus infected and good. In the spam messages received column, the user will see the reason the email was flagged under the Subject heading. The user has the option to deliver the email to his/her account once or to always allow mail from this sender.

  11. The user will also see email messages that have been delivered and classified as good. This may not always be true. The user needs to verify that the messages are appropriate. If not, the user has the option to always block that particular sender.

  12. For More Information • Remember your Mail Summary is a day late. Click on the link for viewing Current incoming email status. • More information on managing the Lightspeed Mail Summary is provided on the website http://www.Lightspeedsystems.comunder the Training-End User training link. There are a series of videos available which contain more details. • Instructional videos on the use of Lightspeed are also available from Atomic Learning at http://movies.atomiclearning.com/k12/home/
