  2. Background About 40 years ago, the MEI paper publication was the main and only dissemination mean for short-term statistics stored in the MEI database. Nowadays: Limited role (contains about 50% of the MEI series) and diminished importance as other OECD publications come along In 2006, the MEI paper publication was reviewed The need to improve the presentation of OECD STES emerged, along with a better visibility for metadata and graphs more VALUE-ADDED to the data collected from NSAs and other organisations 25-27 June 2007 – Working Party STES OECD Paris

Objectives identify a NEW VALUE-ADDED MEI product for the dissemination of key short-term economic indicators accommodate RECENT ON-GOING DEVELOPMENT in the area such as OECD.Stat, Pubstat, etc. The new product could take the form of: a SATELLITE ELECTRONIC PRODUCT with limited analytical text and with / without a paper version DOMAIN-SPECIFIC, STATIC ANDDYNAMIC 25-27 June 2007 – Working Party STES OECD Paris

  5. Phase One PHASE ONE FORMULATION OF INITIAL SET OF TASKS Roles of various existing publications, e.g. Dotstat, CD-Rom, Olisnet, free data on statistical portal, Beyond20/20, CSV files, E-book (PDF), Press releases, etc. 25-27 June 2007 – Working Party STES OECD Paris

  7. Phase Three • PHASE THREE DEVELOPMENT OF A PROTOTYPE A SUBSET OF INDICATORS will be included for a new MEI service. The ultimate product should satisfy the following OBJECTIVES: • Comprehensive selection of Short Term TARGET INDICATORS; • At least 2/3 (i.e. 20 OECD MC) of COUNTRY COVERAGE; • LENGTH of time series; • CROSS-COUNTRY harmonisation of indicators; • Extension to NON MEMBER COUNTRIES; 25-27 June 2007 – Working Party STES OECD Paris

  8. Phase Four • PHASE FOUR MARKET TESTING AND RESOURCES ESTIMATION Required for the technical development of the new tool and the on-going implementation of work on a monthly basis (i.e. analytical text, metadata update etc) 25-27 June 2007 – Working Party STES OECD Paris
