  1. Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) The blue screen of death (BSOD) is the name given by users to the Windows general protection fault (GPF) error. In honor of the error's display image of white text on a blue background, the BSOD is generated by the operating system when it has suddenly terminated with an error. The system restarts and must be rebooting. The blue screen may include the form of hexadecimal or binary numbers that can potentially be used to determine what caused the crash. The blue screen of death can occurred anywhere and anytime. At the Comdex trade show, Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates encountered the blue screen during a demonstration of Windows 98, XP. (He had a spare computer standing by.) How the bsod Spread The error quickly gained throughout the 1990s as Windows became the standard operating system for most home and office computers. The topic of “stop error” messages has been covered by various tech bloggers and computer programmers since as early as in March 1998 with Computer Writer’s the Blue Screen of Death which was published as a column article in the daily newspaper. The founder of Microsoft Bill Gates could not escape the Blue Screen of Death either. During the presentation of a Windows 98 beta at COMDEX in April 1998, the demo computer crashed as one of the assistants tried to connect a scanner in expanding the Windows support for Plug & Play devices.
