Collection of cases of model failures • STC requested "to perform a collection of cases of model failures relevant for the different COSMO countries according to the forecasters, through the contact points belonging to WG4, 2-4 cases by each country". It was mentioned at the last SMC meeting that the most interesting and important cases of this kind are those where the high-resolution model fails to predict the processes it's best suited for, e.g., convection development • A request was sent to WG4 to begin to make a collection of such cases with a short description of each case • During the next summer, we will continue to gather this collection and prepare an overview by the COSMO GM 2019, hopefully with some explanations of model failures

New PT plan is not prepared yet:Guidelines for users of LAM forecasts. • Forecast production chain: Sequences of maps, meteograms, other products • Improving the link between verificators and forecast users, explaining state-of-the-art verification techniques, how to read spatial verification results • EPS applications. How to use EPS products. The PT leader: Inna Rozinkina (RHM), possibly with Dimitra Boucouvala (HNMS) But this PT is still actual. Hopefully, the PT plan will be ready by the Summer SMC meeting

Using COSMO-Ru forecasts at Russian regional Roshydromet agencies • Russia has a large territory with different geographical conditions • There are 87 regional agencies of Roshydromet in Russia • Most of them traditionally use a GIS software, which enables plotting the forecasts (international and Russian models) available through the Global Telecommunication System (GTS). The fields in GTS are in coarse resolution. We cannot yet transmit COSMO forecasts with original resolution through the GTS • At present, forecasters use COSMO forecasts mainly as maps and meteograms sent via e-mail and on the site of the Russian Hydrometcentre, but they would like to be able to plot them • Forecasters are more used to global forecasts. So, for us it’s very important to teach them how to use LAM forecasts

Draft of the new PP AWARE: Appraisal of "Challenging WeAther" FoREcasts • Joint with WG5 with participation of WG7 • Linked closely with the WMO HIW project and the EUMETNET SRNWP EPS project • The goal of the PP is to provide COSMO Community with an overview of forecast methods and forecast evaluation approaches that related to high impact weather (not necessarily considered extreme to all users). • The PP AWARE will be presented in a special talk
