CATT • We are 24 hour ,7 day a week service whose primary role is to provide urgent psychiatric assessments • We provide urgent assessments for people who are not currently under Mental Health Service. • We provide urgent after hours Mental Health assessments for persons who are current patients. • We provide information to the general public about the Mental Health Act and the role of the DAO

MENTAL HEALTH ACT & DAO • Mental Health (Compulsory Assessment and Treatment )Act 1992 (MHA) • The MHA defines the circumstances in which and the conditions under which persons may be subject to compulsory psychiatric assessment and treatment • The Duly Authorised Officer (DAO) is a health professional that has undergone the appropriate training and competencies in assessing mental disorder and has been designated a DAO by the Director of Area Meant Health Service (DAHMS)

  6. MHA & DAO Continued • The DAO is responsible to perform they functions and exercise the powers of the MHA as directed by the DAHMS. • The DAO is also responsible to provide information abut the MHA to the community in general.

  7. Urgent CATT Assessment • Referral to CATT can be made by self or person concerned and or GP • If the person is a current patient of CMHS CATT to contact Case Manager • CATT to manage any risk issues and offer assistance if required • Case manager to manage on going follow up once immediate risk subsides

  8. Urgent CATT Assessment continued • If the person is new to MHS CATT to identify nature of Crisis and any risk issues • CATT to assess person to be seen by Dr as required • Formulate a plan including provision for urgent follow up or admission as appropriate • If not admitted CATT to continue follow up until person is allocated to appropriate community team or discharged to GP

  10. MENTAL HEALTH LINE • Provides information and triage for mental health service users • All calls answered by skilled mental health clinicians • It is the first point of entry to MHS after hours • Contact number for MHL is 0800223371
