A year ago, data was made free and accessible, leading to new platforms and possibilities for collecting and using data. The vision includes local and geo-coded data, improved survey data collection, and better-trained statisticians. Open Data involves everyone - users, producers, and policymakers. Local involvement, like the Uwazi program in Tanzania, can drive change. Challenges include weak statistical systems due to lack of resources and trained staff. Partnership opportunities exist in improving data access, capacity building, and innovating data collection methods.

Zoellick, 2010, Washington DC
