  1. Welcome to IrwinNew StudentParent Orientation!

  4. Attendance and Tardiness School hours: 9:10 AM - 3:20 PM Please call the attendance line if your child is going to be out sick 732-613- 6840. Your child will be counted tardy if he or she arrives after 9:10 Regular attendance is essential for success!

  5. The First Week of School • Talk to your child EACH DAY about how they go home from school. • Teach them their bus number (1-7) • Show them their bus stop prior to school starting so they know when to get off, especially if you drive them to school on the first day. • Be at the bus stop a little early each day so they can see a friendly face

  6. Dismissal • Please contact the school AND your child's teacher to notify them of dismissal changes and absences. • Unless notified by parent or guardian, your child’s teacher will follow usual going home procedures. • Please keep emergency contact information up to date. Only people on the list are allowed to pick up your child. A written note is not enough! This needs to go through the office before we will release your child.

  7. Walkers: • Walkers can enter school from either the back parking lot or the Kindergarten doors each morning. • Walkers will ALWAYS be dismissed from the back parking lot at the end of the day. For the month of September, please bring your family name card with you until our teachers get to know you.

  8. Bus Riders • For Transportation Information: Please check Parent Access after August 28th for your child’s bus information for the 2017-2018 school year. • Please plan to arrive at your child’s bus stop at least 10 minutes early for both drop off an pick up. • Bus riders enter and exit the building through the Kindergarten Doors. • If for any reason your child will NOT be taking the bus home on a given day, please contact us BEFORE 3pm with any transportation changes.

  9. School Supplies A copy of the school supply list for this year was mailed home to you with your invitation to todays presentation and can always be found on our website: www.ebnet.org

  10. What happens during the school day? • Language Arts: Readers and Writers Workshop • Math:  Everyday Math • Science: Hands-on/Inquiry-based • Social Studies: Closely developed with our ILA Program • Specials: Health, Art, Music, Physical Education and Library Media Studies Weekly. • Spanish: 2x weekly (grades 4 and 5)

  11. Lunch • Students enter a Personal Identification Number (PIN) If your child is buying lunch, they will receive a card from their teacher with their PIN # on it (Adults are available to assist them) • Students can always use cash to purchase lunch • IOU process/can be paid in the lunchroom • For information about the lunch program or to add money to your child’s account, please see the Child Nutrition home page on our district website (www.ebnet.org) under “Departments”.

Ms. BrodniakSchool Nurse • Immunizations/Physicals • Getting Ready for School Each Day • If Your Child is Ill (reliable contact) • Medication Administration (no OTC medication should be sent with child) • Emergency Contact Cards • Change of clothing (in a bag labeled with your child’s name) • Nutritional vs. Non-nutritional lunch Your child must stay home for at least 24 hours after being fever and/or vomit free! When your child has been absent, please provide a doctor’s note when possible.

  13. Toys Toys of any kind are not permitted at school unless requested by teacher.

  14. Back To School Night for Irwin is: October 1 at 7pm for grades K-2 and October 2 for grades 3-5 • Parent Conferences • Two times per year- October and March (more info to follow) • Teachers are always available by email and phone at other times.

  15. Behavior Expectations: All students at Irwin spend the month of September reviewing and learning about our school-wide expectations. We have signs posted throughout the school and classroom which list our shared responsibilities to one another. When we find students following the expectations, we like to give them Superhero Shields. Any minor discipline issues will be addressed in the classroom. A phone call or e-mail will be made or sent as needed. The office staff will become involved for extreme behavior issues. Please review expectations with your child every day.

  16. Dress for the Weather We will have outside recess everyday weather permitting. Please dress your child accordingly. Please label all items with a permanent marker including lunchboxes, backpack, jackets, hats, etc…

  17. Safety Your child needs to know his/her full name as well as your name. Before School Starts, please practice their first and last name and if that name is different than yours, make sure your child knows your last name as well.
