A person should have the relevant documents like health records, doctor’s prescriptions and other required information from which the doctor gets to know the kind of medical condition.   Upon examining the patient, a doctor decides whether the person has the requisite qualifying condition for which he/she can benefit from medical marijuana. If so, the doctor fills out and signs a recommendation that generally includes the consumption method, the dosage and the time period or validity of medical marijuana depending upon the patient's condition.

All the necessary forms like the residency proof, the patient’s application, the doctor’s recommendation, the application fees and the caregiver’s form, if any are submitted online by the patient. The state department which supervises the medical marijuana program analyzes the application submitted. And on finding it to be suitable mails the medical marijuana card to the patient. Both the card and the recommendation are valid for one year generally, after which the patient can get them renewed by filling the online application.
