  1. Solar system Our solar system has 8 planets and one dwarf planet. Every thing in space orbits except the sun.

  2. Sun Our sun will eventually wear out in about 5 billion years from now. The sun is the largest object in space.

  3. Mercury Mercury is the closes planet to the sun. Mercury is about the size of earth’s moon.

  4. Venus Venus is the 2nd planet closest to the sun. Venus is about the same size as earth.

  5. Earth Earth is the largest inner planet. Earth is the only planet in space that supports life.

  6. Mars Mars’ nickname is called the red planet. Mars is small –its diameter is only half of earth’s. Mars also has a robot.

  7. Asteroid belt The asteroid belt is between Mars and Jupiter. The asteroid belt is made up of a bunch of asteroids together.

  8. Jupiter Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system. Jupiter’s diameter is more than 11 times the diameter of earth’s.

  9. Saturn Saturn has rings that are visible from earth with a telescope. Saturn has at least 31 moons.

  10. Uranus Uranus is another gas giant. Uranus rotates on its side as it orbits the sun.

  11. Neptune Neptune’s atmosphere is mostly made up of hydrogen and helium. It is one of the windiest places in our solar system.

  12. Pluto Pluto’s atmosphere is mostly nitrogen. Pluto’s moon is almost as big as Pluto itself.

  13. Comet Some comets become well known because their obits bring them close to earth. A comet is a ball of rock ,ice, and frozen gases.
