  1. Convicts are people who have been accused of all different crimes and have been sent to cruel gaols for there actions. introduction

  2. John was tried in Exeter, Devon on the 7th of August 1786 He was accused of stealing a piece of steel at a value of 19 shillings He was sentenced to transportation for 7 years He had no recorded jobs He was educated and could write his signature neatly Convict: john Williams

  3. Conditions were horrible Convicts and officers had a lot of scurvy and dysentery Some people even died from the sickness There was a pail but no room to clean yourself on the ship Conditions on the ship

  4. Convicts had to work from sunrise to sunset nearly everyday The governor worked the convicts so hard some people died Convicts were given one hour of recreation a day were they played cards and marbles They had to be in bed by 9:00 each night work

  5. Convicts were not given enough food for the amount of hard work they put in They were given 3kg beef, 3kg flour, 1.3kg maize meal and 0.9kg of sugar a week Convicts who were slaves to people other than the government were expected to be fed by their masters There was hardly any fresh food and they relied heavily on supplies coming from England food

  6. Convicts looked tired, ragged and hungry They did not get enough quality clothes for the amount of time they worked and the places they worked Some convicts were so unlucky they were not even issued with shoes or socks Men and women from the first fleet hardly got any clothes every year clothes

  7. The first fleet made Australia what it is now The convicts made up most of Australia's population for the first few decades of the settlement conclusion
