  2. Countries Ally with Allies • Australia and Japan now w/allies • United States • India supplied troops to England (their oppressor) • Why would Indians want to do this? • Ottoman Turks and Bulgaria w/Germany and Central Powers • Great Powers look for allies (from colonies) to balance power

  3. Gallipoli Campaign • Took place on the Gallipoli peninsula (Gelibolu in modern Turkey) in the Ottoman Empire • Strategy of Allies • Attack Ott. Emp. (Dardanelles Strait) • Gateway to Ott. Capital Constantinople • Reasons: • Allies could take Constant. • Defeat Turks • Establish supply line to Russia TURKEY

  4. Asia and Africa • Germany’s colonial possession attacked • Japanese take possessions in China • Eng. and France attack African colonies (take 3) • Fighting troops from English and French colonies: • India, South Africa, Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, and Indochina (Vietnam)
