The New Graduate RN Transition Program (Summer 2011 - Fall 2012) offers new nursing graduates a comprehensive transition to clinical practice. Funded by HWI, the program includes cooperative work experience, clinical faculty support, and orientation at partnering hospitals. Participants undergo two to three simulation experiences, receive weekly journal reviews, and complete 240 hours of precepted clinical practice. With a 75% hire rate in Fall 2012, this program effectively enhances confidence and competence through a structured evaluation process, including the Casey Fink New Grad Survey.

Program format • Cooperative Work Experience at college • College provides liability and Workman’s Comp for new grad participants • HWI funds faculty and coordinates application and selection process
College Component • College provides clinical faculty • Two clinical site visits by college faculty • Weekly reflection journal reviewed and discussed with new grad (email/phone) • Two-three simulation experiences at college • Skills review at college as needed
Hospital Component • Hospitals (managers and/or educators)choose candidates • New Grads participate in the 3-5 days of hospital/unit orientation along with new employees • Hospitals provide 240 hours clinical with a preceptor
