  4. Armistice Day officially received its name in America in 1926 through a Congressional resolution

  5. It became a national holiday 12 years later by a similar congressional act

  6. Armistice Day was to celebrate the end of World War I Might still be called Armistice day today but…..

  7. World War II soon erupted How do we honor the veterans of WWII?

  8. Representative Edwin Rees of Kansas proposed changing Armistice Day to Veterans Day Honor Veterans of all of Americas wars; past, present, and future

  9. In 1954 President Eisenhower signed a bill making November 11th Veterans Day

  10. In 1921 a unknown soldier was placed in a tomb at Arlington National Cemetery Known as the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

  11. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier • To honor these men, symbolic of all Americans who gave their lives in all wars, an Army honor guard, The 3rd U.S. Infantry (The Old Guard), keeps day and night vigil.
