  1. Rickets • A disorder caused by a lack of Vitamin D, calcium, or phosphate • Leads to softening and weakening of the bones • Infants who are breastfed only may develop a Vitamin D deficiency • Is rare in developed countries • Common in undeveloped countries

  2. Replacing calcium, phosphorus, or vitamin D that is lacking will eliminate most symptoms • Positioning or bracing may be used to reduce or prevent deformities • Some skeletal deformities may require corrective surgery
