  2. Three Groups of Learners On- Level Students Special Needs (ADD/ADHD) TAG (Talented and Gifted)

  3. On-Level Students 3 boys ( 9 and 10 Years Old)

  4. On-level Students Needs: No special needs are necessary for this group of students. The students all take direction well, are self-starters, and stay on task. They enjoy peer-tutoring and feed off each other’s strengths and weaknesses. No unnecessary monitoring is needed once directions are given. Abilities: They look to each other to see at what speed the work needs to be done. The boys are all above or on level in math, English, and reading. The boys have no discipline problems. They transition from one task to the next with no additional instruction. They read or entertain themselves when they are finished.

  5. On-levelStudents Interests: This group loves anything related to the military and its battles. The boys like sports and outside activities. They really enjoy science experiments. Learning Styles: This group learns best from taking detailed notes. They enjoy working with computers and are attracted to written or spoken language rich in imagery. They have more Visual Learners tendencies than any other learning style. They are all problem solvers and enjoy puzzles and open-ended questions.

  6. Add/ADHD Students ( Special needs) 2 boys and 1 girl ( 9 and 10 Years Old)

  7. Needs: Each child requires a seat near the teacher or by a peer tutor. They need clear, precise, step by step instructions. All the students’ materials have to be gathered before beginning. Copies of notes or lectures need to be provided. Charts and graph templates are provided. Tasks need to be broken down into easy- to- understand steps. Constant support and praise is needed for positive behaviors and effort. They need extra time to complete assignments. Abilities: All three students are a little below level in reading and English but are on level for math. Discipline problems are only present when they become overwhelmed, bored, or have not taken their medication. Transitioning between tasks is very difficult for them. Once they start an activity they become involved and want to finish it. They all work very well with peer tutors and/or adults. If given an example or model they are able to replicate it.

  8. Interests: They like anything with pictures. They like to draw and they like art activities. The two boys enjoy anything athletic and the girl enjoys anything Disney. These kids do not enjoy loud noises; they are bored easily in reading. They will not read on their own unless specifically told to. Learning Styles: This group learns best from visual cues and hand signals to enhance communication. They need constant praise and prompts to return to their assignments. They need multi-sensory presentation of facts and information. They need to be active and take frequent breaks. They speak with their hands and will find reasons to move or play with things when bored. You need to keep on top of their organization skills because they are easily distracted and may not follow all the instructions. They do not like open ended questions, they need to have a specific answer for each question.

  9. TaGStudents(talented and Gifted) 3 ten year old girls

  10. TaG Students Needs: This group of girls finishes their classwork quickly and quietly with no help. Enrichment and extension activities are required for this group of girls. They constantly ask what they can do next. Occasional prompting to be a class leader or vocalize their ideas is needed. No additional special needs are necessary for this group. Abilities: All three girls are above level in all subjects and are way above their peers in reading and critical thinking skills. They are very shy and do not like to be the center of attention. They are very computer literate and help me when I have technological problems. They enjoy working with others and are excellent peer tutors. They read or entertain themselves when they are finished.

  11. TaGStudents Interests: These girls love animals: reading about them, drawing them, or researching them. They love to read anything at any time. They love to get on the computer and make movies; photography is also another skill that these girls enjoy. Learning Styles: This group learns by reading; anything they read or hear is instantly soaks into their brains. They look like they are not paying attention but they can quote exactly what you just said. They want to know why, how, and when; you can see their brains working as you teach them. They enjoy hands-on experience and can re teach others very easily. They love to ask questions. They are never satisfied with an answer; they want to know what if.

  13. bRAINSTORMING Who are they? What do they eat? Where do they live? How long do they live? Are they endangered? What kind of music is played? What instruments are used? When are the different festivals? • What is made here? • Where is it grown? • Who makes it? Who was born here? Who lives here? What have they done?

  14. Problem to be solved We have been hired by the New Orleans Audubon Zoo to help set up a Louisiana animal exhibit. What three animals will you choose to add to the zoo?
