  2. PBIS is… • Systems approach to discipline that emphasizes prevention, instruction on social skills and data-based decision-making to both reduce problem behavior and improve academic performance.

  3. The Process • School safety and self-assessment surveys. • Based on results, areas of need identified. • CORE Behavior Group created. • Two days of training. • Revised and developed new plan for citizenship. • Rewards system.

  4. Three-Tiered Model of School Supports. Tier 1 – Intervention for all students (teaching the matrix through daily lessons) Tier 2 – Targeted Group(s) – Interventions for students who need more support in addition to the school wide program. Tier 3 – Intensive interventions – students who need individualized interventions.

  5. Tier 1 This year we have a system in place for teaching the matrix. During the school year, the matrix will be defined, taught, practiced, reinforced and re-taught as many times as needed. Staff members will have input as to how we proceed throughout the school year. Lesson plans are completed for the 1st quarter. At the end of October the CORE team will be sending a questionnaire looking for feedback. After the data is compiled lesson plans will be sent out based on the evidence. ONLY TEACHERS DEMONSTRATE NEGATIVE BEHAVIOR!

  8. Sample Day • The School Song will play at 8:10 AM. • Let’s SING!!! • Lesson Plans: • Calendars for Sept., Oct. & Nov. pgs. 14, 15 & 16. Note – change to titles. At the end of Oct. the team will be asking for feedback to plan Dec and so on. • Lesson plans start on pg. 18. Note – emailed change to pg. 18 on Monday. • Homeroom Notebook. • Handouts will be made for you. Discuss reflection.

  10. Tier 2 For students at-risk. More adult intervention. Intensified instruction and guided practice. Increased cues and prompts. Self-monitoring.

Steps to Referring Student to the CORE Team • Student is discussed at team level. • Teacher interventions and strategies are documented on the referral form. • The form is completed and placed in bin in main office. • The referrals are collected and reviewed once a week. • An agenda is created and sent to staff in preparation for Thursday’s meeting. This allows staff to know what team will be discussed so the members can send a representative.

  12. Tier 3 For chronic, intense behavior problems. Intensified assessments and interventions. Mandated by IDEA for any student whose behavior impedes his/her learning or that of others. Functional Behavior Assessment and Behavior Intervention Plan.

  16. Bear Pride Club The Positive Behavior Supports Team at Beverly Hills Middle School created a recognition program within the building. The Bear Pride 200 club is designed to recognize individual students who do the right thing in upholding the PBS framework of Be Safe, Be Responsible and Be Respectful. All staff, including teachers, administrators, security, maintenance and office staff, are responsible for acknowledging students by giving specific positive feedback, both verbally and by giving a ticket, to students who are meeting the building-wide expectations. The BEAR PRIDE 200 CLUB is intended to directly respond to positive behaviors in the school. In addition, the positive behaviors will be acknowledged through the school, on the website and personal contact with the homes.
