  3. Why are these important public health issues? • Traffic safety is a number one concern in the USA. About 48,000 people in one year die in car accidents. Compare this to 50,000 people dying in the Vietnam War. • Air quality can affect the population in many ways. If polluted it can harm many people. • Community concerns deals with just about every issue that deal with a certain group of people. Ex. Health Care, Population, Transportation, Education, and ect…

  4. Traffic Safety During our site, we went around campus and to nearby neighborhoods looking at traffic safety and street designs. We also critiqued unsafe street situations. In this process we discovered different issues that would make an unsafe community; most people don’t even realize that they are a threat.

Air Quality • Air quality affects the health of all living things, in positive and negative ways. • According to the American Lung Association, particles in the air can cause or aggravate a number of health problems which are linked with illnesses and deaths. • Air pollution may harm crops in rural areas near power plants or factories.

  6. Community Concerns • Transportation • School Zones • Health Care • Education • Street Smarts • Environmental Issues • Career Opportunities • Traffic Safety • Recreational Facilities

  7. Reina We designed a town that in our opinion is perfect for public health issues. It includes every aspect that has to do with the health and safety of the community.

  8. Things We Learned • Different traffic layouts • Why air quality is important • How to be a safe driver • What a “safe” community is • How to work with others • How to create a town • HOW TO WORK & ALSO HAVE TONS OF FUN!!!!!!!!!!

  9. We can make a difference! • Start by recycling. • Follow traffic laws • Inform your friends about issues that face our society today. • Walk or bike to nearby places instead of using cars. • DRIVE SAFELY!!!!!!!!

  10. How we can make a difference in this area as future professionals in public health and other professions? As future professionals we should start making a difference today in our communities so that our environment in the future is healthy and safe .
