  10. New Facilities National Center for Weather and Climate Prediction (NCWCP) Fairmount, WV The NOAA Center for Weather and Climate Prediction is located on a 50-acre section of the University of Maryland's M-Square Research and Technology Park. Tenants include approximately 800 employees of NOAA's National Weather Service, National Environmental Satellite, Data and Information Service, and Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research. The project was completed in the Fall of 2012

  14. OSPO Facility Activities (page 1 of 2) • NSOF: • GOES-R equipment going in Summer 2013 • Phase 1 power and cooling upgrade to be completed by December 2013 • The significant outages that were previously expected have been mitigated • Phase I power and cooling upgrade (additional increase to power capabilities) • WCDA: • 1st GOES-R antenna certification – November 2013 • Power Upgrades – December 2013 • GOES-R Gnd system installations completed in Feb 2014

  15. OSPO Facility Activities (page 2 of 2) • FBKs • New JPSS Antenna July 2013 • Barrow Antenna upgrades for Jaosn-3 cokpleted Fall 2013 • Demolition of old Ops Building – 2015 • Major Facility Construction Project planned for 2013 • The facility’s upgrade was originally slated to cause a significant outage of services provide through the NSOF. This have been circumvented and will only require brief outage or reduction in the availability of backup systems. • Consolidated BackUp (Fairmount, WV) • Construction completion June 2014 • Facility for GOES-R, JPSS

  17. FBKS Continuity Of Operations Currently looking to leverage data links from FBKs to NSOF. Contract statement of work being written DS-3 Network Maintenance and Upgrades is being rebid

  18. NDE Operational within MOD

  19. Agenda • Organizational Chart/Personnel Changes • Recent Accomplishments and Changes • OSPO Strategic Goals/Priorities • OSPO Facilities Activities • Preparations for New Missions • FBKS Continuity of Operations • NDE Operational within MOD at end of July 2013 • Other • Addition of Metop/Dual Metop Capability • Summary of Upcoming Launches

  20. Addition of Metop/Dual Metop Capability • Metop-B HRPT successfully acquired at both NOAA CDAs and relayed to ESPC at NSOF. This is very much appreciated by the user community. • Initial problems with FBKs have been resolved • Metop-B successfully integrated into Step Msg Process • Retained the capability to support Metop-A. • Priority Procedures have been reissued following Metop-B going Operational • SOCC Interrogation schedule included Metop-B for HRPT and proficiency passes. • SOCC Operators do not need to perform configurations for M-HRPT but need to know when the DOMSAT is in use. The interrogation schedule will ensure they are aware.

  21. Summary of Upcoming Launches That will be supported by OSPO DMSP 19 – April 2014 DSCOVR – Launch window Nov 2014-Jan 2014 Jason-3 March 2015 GOES-R – October 2015 JPSS-1:2nd quarter FY 2017 Free Flyer 1- 1st Quarter FY 2017

  24. Next Generation Satellites Joint Polar Satellite System is NOAA’s contribution to the Administration’s decision to restructure the NPOESS Program • Operational continuity of satellite based observations • Improved resolution • Crucial to improvements in climate monitoring and weather modeling • GOES-R Program will ensure continuity of geostationary satellite coverage and will provide significant improvements over current satellites • More timely and accurate weather forecasts • Improved resolution • Lightning detection and mapping • Higher data rates for environmental data relay NOAA Satellite and Information Service: National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS)
