  2. Rod like, elongated, elastic supportive structure called notochorddevelops during embryonic periods

  3. Dorsal tubular nerve cord develops which later on differentiate in tobrain and spinal cord in higher form

  4. Pharyngeal gill slits or gill clefts develop during early embryonic life

  5. Heart is situated on ventral side of body

  6. RBCs containing respiratory pigment Hb in blood

  7. Presence of portal system

  8. Post-anal tail- extension of body beyond anus is called tail

  9. Phylum- Urochordata
