  2. The Game • The World Ends With You is a action/ RPG game that takes place in Shibuya, Japan. It is for the Nintendo DS and iOS. • The focus of the game is to complete missions, which are assigned throughout the game and defeat Noise, which are monsters.

  3. Characters • You play as the character Neku Sakuraba, a Asian 15 year old male that is usually closed off and rude. He fights using pins which let him use powers. • During the game, you get three partners, the first is Shiki Misaki, a 15 year old female, who fights using a cat plush • The next partner is YoshiyaKiryu (Joshua), who is a teenager who is very cunning and intelligent. He fights using his phone and lazers. • Your final partner is DaisukenojoBito (Beat), a skate boarder who has a ‘tough guy’ attitude most of the time. He fights with his skateboard. • Other characters are, RaimuBito (Rhyme, female) and SanaeHanekoma (male), a adult friend of Joshua.

  4. Playable character artwork Shiki Neku Beat Joshua

  5. Portrayal • In The World Ends With You, the teenagers are portrayed as modern teens in japan. They are shown having problems a teen might have and dealing with personal problems, like appearance or friendships. • The characters are shown to be rather skinny or fit for the most part, and Shiki wearing small clothing, as well as some female NPCs • I didn’t notice any people with special needs in the game

  6. Stereotypes and Homophobia • Females are shown to care a lot about fashion or how they look • Males are usually shown to be ‘tough’ or business-like. • I didn’t notice much homophobia during my run-throughs, in fact, in the after-game, which is in a alternate universe, Joshua is shown as very feminine and seems to flirt with Neku sometimes.

  7. Violence • The game revolves around fighting most of the game, though there is no blood or gore. • Several characters have guns, and one of them shoots Neku twice. • Many characters do die, by being erased (games version of killed) • I do agree that it is somewhat violence, but it is fantasy violence, using powers to keep your character alive.

  8. Messages • Positive messages in the game are: enjoy life, know what you value most and why you value it, people can change for the better. • Negative messages: society can really suck.

  9. The game and I • I started playing it when I was 11, but didn’t get through most of it until I was 13. I think 12 is a good age to start but it depends on the person. • I’ve spent at least 40 hours on my current run, the first one had 30+ hours.

  10. Why I like this game • I like playing the world ends with you because the fighting style (use both ds screens) is different and unique • I also really like the story and challenges the game gives you • It has good messages that can make you think about life and other people • Here is a trailer for it

  11. Video game addiction • I do think video game addiction does exist. • It is when someone lets video games take over their life and put all their time into it. • I don’t think I’m addicted, since I only play video games for a few hours a week, unless I get a new one then I play it during my free time
