Introduction • Authors entertain us with their vivid imagination and their talent for writing. • We know many of their popular stories, but what do we really know about them? • Where did they come from? • What do they look like? • How do they come up with the ideas for their wonderful stories? • Is the author working on any new stories?

  3. Tasks ~ Each task is explained in detail on the following slides. • You will research and find the answers the questions listed. • You will write a letter to Walter Dean Myers. • You will write a list of the books that Walter Dean Myers has written. • You will create a picture collage of Harlem in the 1930s – 1950s. • Bind all of your work in a self created “book” that you should dedicate to the author. Write a dedication to the author. • Create a cover for your “book.”

Explain why this book sounds interesting to you. What connections can you make to this book that would make you want to read it?

  7. Harlem • Research Harlem during the 1930s – 1950s. • Create a picture/image collage of Harlem during this time period. • You can print pictures or draw pictures. • Remember a collage contains pictures that cover the entire paper. • Include this paper in your self created book.

  8. Put it all together! • Bind all of your work in a self created “book” that you should dedicate to the author. Write a dedication to the author. • Create a cover for your “book.” • You should have a total of 5 pages in your book: dedication page, questions about Myers, letter to Myers, book list, and a Harlem collage.
