  5. Remote Data Management – An Overview • An extension of the traditional outsourced data maintenance, Remote Data Access and Management (RDAM) pertains to providing data maintenance services by accessing the client data and providing the maintenance servicesfrom a remote location • The data resides at the clients’ locations and is accessed and worked upon by the service provider operating remotely. • Complete data security is offered to the client, whilst the maintenance being handled by a trusted vendor complying to security standards like ISO 27001 / BS 7799 • The following categories of clients can avail these services: • Organizations which have a fully operational GIS system in place and looking for assistance in providing maintenance services on the data and application • Organizations which have a partial GIS system (i.e. data may be in different formats, platforms, etc) which is operational. • Organizations for which updated data is critical due to the nature of their operations

  6. Remote Data Management – What it Offers to Clients • Organizations are able to develop a consistence and long term strategy for the accuracy, currency, quality and update frequency for their data, because: • 1. Optimization of core functions and productivity: Organizations can focus on their core functions, instead of getting into data management • 2. Increased efficiency & Cost Reduction: • No capital investments or hiring is required to set up their own maintenance resources; instead it is outsourced to specialist organizations like us who offer such services at a lower cost and higher efficiency. • Access from low cost destinations like India further reduce costs. • Stable, predictable, fixed costs can be budgeted and measured. • The cost of failure is reduced due to best practices adopted by us which translates into improved quality and efficiency `

  7. Remote Data Management – What it Offers to Clients • 3. Minimization of Risks: Skilled resources of Infotech reduce the risk of potential omissions & errors, ensuring high levels of accuracy & currency and minimum downtime. • 4. Increased Flexibility • Our maintenance services are tailored for a client as per their needs and requirements and offer enough flexibility to the client to scale up or down quickly as business situations change by adding or dropping services as necessary. • Our maintenance services offer a wide range of services like Dating/modifying data, Retiring data, Duplicate handling, Reporting on data changes, Database maintenance schedule, Software upgrade procedures etc, which offer a client a high degree of flexibility to select and maintain an enhanced level of data readiness for various applications `

  8. Remote Data Management – The Advantage • Offiste data maintenance is cost effective and offers both short term and long term solution for database maintenance • Quick turn around and ramp up by leveraging the existing set up and infrastructure • Effective resource deployment that will help in quicker project initiation and execution • Faster implementation of any technology upgrades and data quality • Capability to overcome the challenges of maintaining a bulky database and any upgrades / changes • Additional staff support ’on need’ basis • Fast disaster relief operations

  9. Remote Data Management – Service Initiation Remote Data Management Study the existing Data Maintenance System Implement a suitable remote data maintenance system Suggest a suitable remote data maintenance system

  10. Spatial Data Maintenance – The process Flow

  11. Spatial Data Maintenance- Various Approaches • “Extract & Post” Methodology • Remote Terminal Service • Distributed Replication Technology

  12. Approach -“Extract & Post” Methodology Clients Location Infotech Extract GIS Data GIS Database Post GIS Data Process : - Extract the Data to the Local Machines - Update the Data - Post the updated data to the Server GIS Data Maintenance Benefits : - Quick Turnaround Time - Cost effective

  13. Approach - Remote Terminal Service Customers Location Fire Wall Data Server Customer Desktops Process : - Access the Customers Desktop - Update the Data Infotech Benefits : - Data Security : No direct Access to the Server - Updates can be made in a much more timely basis - enabling the Customers to work on a database that is continually than possible with traditional techniques.

  14. Approach - Distributed Replication Technology Replicate System Primary Data Server Customer Site Infotech Data Maintenance Team • Process : • - Set-up a replicate system • - Update the Data real time • Replicate the changes to the core • system Benefits : - Data Security : No direct Access to the Server - Updates can be made in a much more timely basis - enabling the Customers to work on a database that is continually than possible with traditional techniques.

  15. Systems and Processes – Data Security • Use advanced data security systems for data maintenance clients such as NetScreen security prioritize the traffic in real time. • The full-featured firewall provides a comprehensive level of packet inspection, authentication, attack blocking, and event logging. • Advanced security technology by replacing slow, CPU-intensive software-based systems with high-performance ASIC-based solutions and a custom-developed real-time operating system. This architecture increases the performance and ease-of-deployment and reduces management barriers typically associated with firewalls and VPN encryption devices that run software on general-purpose processors, PCs or workstations. • Vendor compliant to ISO 27001 processes and has a well documented security policy to protect the data and information security to our clients

  16. Client End Systems and Processes – A Sample Network Connectivity

  17. Systems and Processes – Version Management • Maintain a database to track the status of the maps and data, to ascertain the status of the maps/areas currently being accessed for data maintenance and the maps/areas that are free. • This database is made accessible to clients. • Based on the contents of this database, the client could know the area we are working and will enable our clients to use the other areas. • Once the data maintenance is completed, database is updated with the list of updations. • If we receive further update/Data Maintenance for the same map the process is repeated.

  18. Systems and Processes – Quality Procedures • Compliance with world class quality certifications like ISO 9001:2000 and CMMi level 5, Infotech delivers cost effective quality services. • Infotech’s compliance with ISO-IEC:27001 policy ensures that client's data security and confidentiality
