Objective: I can compare and contrast works of fiction and nonfiction and recognize similarities in main idea. Warm Up (in your composition book) Copy your objective into you comp book. Turn to pg. 114 in your IR book and read the section WHAT WOULD YOU RISK FOR SOMEONE ELSE? Complete the LIST IT activity on the side where it says RISKS I'D BE WILLING TO TAKE.

  4. A HISTORICAL FICTION: Reread lines 4-20. Underline details in the passage that tell you this story is set in the past.

  5. B THEME VS TOPIC: Reread lines 21-49. How does Bimbo show his loyalty to Tito?

  6. C HISTORICAL FICTION: Reread lines 71-76. What details about food help bring the ancient setting to life?

  7. D THEME VS TOPIC: What details help you infer that Bimbo is important to Tito?

  8. PAUSE AND REFLECT: Why do you think the people of Pompeii had so many explanations for what caused the earthquakes?

Preview both of these selections and jot down the text features that you see in each.
