  2. SAP One of major Vendor for Enterprise Wide Software

  3. SAP (Systems, Applications, Products) SAP is the leading ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) software package in the world. It is the first to integrate an organization’s worldwide functions into an application.

  4. SAP History • Five former IBM programmers founded it in 1972 • In 1972 SAP R/1 solutions was launched to provide standard software to automate processes common to most companies. • In 1979 SAP R/2 was launched to provide businesses with transactional efficiency. It was the first enterprise wide software.

  5. In 1992 SAP R/3 client/server and mainframe business applications are used to manage enterprise-wide operations, integrate business processes, automate the supply chain and provide a better return on information.

  8. SAP Software Approach • Previously companies used multiple software applications or they had a full staff of program developers • Time consuming, costly and error prone • SAP successfully integrated all business functions • SAP automated organizations’ tasks

  9. It provided organizations’ with selected standard processes and many other optional processes and features e.g Reporting and Analysis • At the back of SAP, there are 10,000 tables to execute the processes

SAP Configuration • Configuration is the process of adjusting the setting of the tables according to business requirement • It is like a radio with number of channels and you tune the desired one • Performs functions like Managerial Accounting, Cost Accounting, Sales, Distribution, Productions planning, Purchasing, HR and many others • All the modules are tightly integrated • After configuration in addition to routine activities it provides with reports, offers comparisons over time, analysis of reports and can even make recommendations and alerts

  12. Today’s SAP • SAP employs more than 33,000 employees all over the world. • Is available in more than 50 countries • Is available in 25 industry-specific versions • Is available in 28 languages • In Pakistan 52 companies are the clients of SAP

Issues at BZU • Very few proper information systems • No or very limited integration • Reasons • No proper Department for future IT/IS development (Lack of Expertise) • Lack of Initiative (looks very difficult) • Lack of Management Support (still very backward and conventional approach towards management: typical Pakistani public organization) • As a Result! • Huge paper work • Access to information not possible • Redundant information (same information entered repeatedly at multiple occasions) • Almost every process is time consuming & Inefficient

Quality • We tend to show losses in our sheets so how we could be able to put a business (investment) case on the table • Time Factor (May require more time because of qualitative issues) • Culture (awareness & consensus) & Management Support (how long they could do it) • Change Management • Are we ready for it or when we will be ready?
