  2. Flunitrazepam is the chemical name also know as…. • Rohypnol, which is the brand name of this drug. • Street name’s are: Date rape drug, Roofies, La Roche, Roach, R2, Club drug and the “forget pill”

  3. The History… • Produced by Hoffman La Roche • It was used as a high sedative in hospitals for medical use in the 1970s. • In 1975 it was released in the market of Europe and sold in other nations in the 1980s. • It is not approved in the U.S • Schedule rating of this drug is Schedule IV

  4. What does Rohypnol do? • It’s a powerful sedative that depresses the central nervous system. • Result can range from mild sedation to the death. • 10 times stronger than valium.

  5. How is it used? • It’s dissolved in drinks • Swallowed as a pill • Snorted • Frequently used in combination with alcohol and drugs.

  6. What does it look like? • A small white pill. • It has no taste or odor when dissolved in a drink.

  7. The short term effects on the body.. • Reduced blood pressure • Dizziness • Confusion • Loss of consciousness • Sleepy • Blackouts • Nausea • The effects of this drug can last from 2-8 hours.

  8. The long term effects…. • Users may develop physical and psychological dependence on the drug. • Some people addicted may experience seizures. • Also they might experience muscle pain, extreme anxiety, hallucinations and headaches

  9. Side effects… • Decrease in blood pressure • Upsets Stomach and Intestinal tract • Urinary retention
