  1. Underwater Caves By Reese Plesko Grade 7 Mr. Lau’s Class

  2. Underwater Caves • Underwater caves can be very dangerous. Compared to caves not underwater where there is oxygen at all time usually. A danger is that underwater caves hold many possible ways to die. There are many mysteries that are deep in the ocean that people may not be very aware of and ready for if they do appear which can lead to death.

  3. The Caveman Of The Ottawa • The Caveman of the Ottawa was discovered and mapped by a 51-year-old, Dr. David Sawatzky. He has spent the last 15years mapping out the cave system of The Caveman Of The Ottawa. When down under he had to safely use technology to map it out and be respectful of the environment and if people explore it they will know how to safely navigate so they wont get lost and possibly die.

  4. What Is So Important About The Caveman Of The Ottawa? What is so important about this is that it is a new discovery that can be important to the environment of which many animals and plant live in. If this environment has not been disturbed for many years and people come in and wreck and aren’t careful it can effect a lot of different species. Also this is a big jump for Canadian explorers for there are not many in Canada.

  5. Area in Canada that contains this type of environment. An area in Canada that contains this type of environment is The Caveman Of The Ottawa because it is in Canada. The reason that this is actually very big is because there are only 10 professional divers that explore and try to find new underwater caves.

  6. Weather and Temperature The temperature of the Ottawa river ranges from -7 degrees in the winter to 12 degrees Celsius in the summer. Being a large body of moving water the water does not get warm very easily so it stays at a low temperature. When in the winter it is still moving but gets colder being covered in ice.

  7. What Makes This Environment Hard To Live In? There are many things that are very fatal about underwater caves. • It is dark so you cant see and can get lost very easily • There is no oxygen under the water so you need a oxygen tank but if you don’t have enough you can die So this has and can and is very dangerous and can if you make a mistake it can cost your life

  8. Past Exploration Of This Environment and The Explorers • There is no past exploration before Dr. David found it and started mapping it. So the only people that are historical to exploring this is Dr. David.

  9. Technology used in this environment created in Canada A.U.V’s can be used to map this area A.U.V’s A.U.V’s are automatic underwater vehicles made in Canada. At I.S.E they create A.U.V’s like the Theseus (to the right) to map the arctic oceans to establish Canada's border. These A.U.V’s can be used to map caves like Dr. David did

  10. How Do A.U.V’s Work? A.U.V’s work by getting orders programmed into them by a computer then get lowered into the ocean and use echo location to figure out measurements and sends messages to the people tracking them which the track down on a computer and create a map.

  11. What is needed to explore underwater caves. There is many things that is needed to explore underwater caves like the following • Scuba mask • Oxygen mask • Scuba diving outerwear to control your body temperature • A light so you can see • Communications so you can contact if you get lost and need to find a way out • And you could also use an A.U.V aswell

  12. How can we explore this environment safely and respectfully? We can do it by only taking things from their habitat like samples for scientific research and make sure that in exploring the area that we don’t damage the life down there that may have been down there untouched for generations.
