  2. The Wise Old Woman • Name three demands from Lord Higa and describe the wise old woman’s solutions. • Why do you think the wise men of the village are unable to solve Lord Higa’s problems? Explain. • What point does this folktale make about people who have power over others? Support your answer. • How might this story be different if it were told from the old woman’s point of view? Explain. • Use your cause and effect organizer to help you explain why the farmer goes against the lord’s decree. Describe the effect of his decision. • Think about how the farmer depends on his mother, and how his mother depends on him. What are the qualities of someone who can be counted on?
