  1. Autonomous System Navigation Driver Augmentation By Team 5 Pathfinder Pedro Coli, Curtis Fuller and Emiran Starova

  2. Mission Statement • ▲Objectives: • 1)To design a new, more effective system of operation for military convoys to maneuver around any obstacle they may face in the road during different weather conditions conditions. • 2) Develop a system to maintain formation of three or more vehicles.

  3. ProblemStatement The problem is the lack of a simple system design that allows the driver of the vehicle to detect obstacles and maintain formation and a relatively constant speed.

  4. DESIGN DESCRIPTION

  5. TacFLIR II multi-sensor • Stabilized sensor • Multiple apparatus payload • Large degree of control • Very sturdy design • Powerful Hardware • Expandable drive bays • Nigh-Vision safe display • Mil-Spec rugged construction

  6. CAD Model

  7. Internal display

  8. Path Model

  9. System Process • Computer analyzes digital video output from sensor • Obstacle is identified by software and data is displayed on laptop touch-screen • Nature of obstacle based on size and movement along with relative location is displayed on special LED display • All 3 cars continuously synched up through Wi-Fi with GPS information being relayed from the laptop (Optional video streaming available) • Lead driver chooses best path for obstacle or vehicle avoidance and relays on radio • Once path is chosen, lead car leads the other cars around the obstacle without getting in the way of oncoming traffic • Formation is maintained and the convoy continues toward it’s destination

  10. Design Benefits & Flaws

  11. Cost Analysis

  12. Conclusion How did it solve the problem? • Complex and effective method of detecting obstacles while maintaining formation. • Tells the driver the nature of the obstacle and what he has to do to avoid it and oncoming traffic. What are the benefits of the design? • Fast and accurate obstacle detection. • Easy to operate and understand. • Multi-function sensor. • Shows best possible path for vehicle or obstacle avoidance. • Inexpensive in comparison to other systems. • Highly customizable and adaptable
