  5. Objectives • Evaluate the role of the self in the world through self-directed inquiry, reflection and group collaboration • Develop investigative, problem solving, and decision-making skills through projects relevant to student lives • Adapt the lesson to suit your class level and goals

  6. What is your definition? Health and Wellness What is your definition? 1) Define it. 2) Ask others. 3) Reshape it.

  9. Risks? Good and Bad? From the following series of pictures*, discuss with your partner... a) Is this healthy or unhealthy behavior? b) What is the risk? c) What are the potential positive/negative consequences?

  10. What other healthy or unhealthy behavior can you think of? With three other people, try to come up with at least two more.

  11. Listen. Then Express. An excerpt of NPR’s Morning Edition on assessing Teen Behavior in the U.S. a) Take notes. b) Give your opinion. c) Debate.

  13. Applying Your Knowledge With your “Health & Wellness Group,” create your own continuum. Use sample continuums and maps for ideas.

  14. Sharing Your Knowledge Pick 1-2 representatives from your group to explain your map or continuum. Think of and present a specific example in your life or any person’s life while you are explaining.

  15. Self-Inventory, Self-Improvement Take a few minutes to think of your health behavior. Complete the statements in your sheet.

  16. Project-Based Learning • student-centered, teacher-facilitated • authentic learning > solve a problem, answer a question > everyday world • communication, presentation, time management, leadership, goal-setting, group participation • use of technology, investigative methods
