Roadmapping workshop – this Wednesday! OPTICON Key Technologies Network Grenoble
Roadmap Database software • Strateva Technology Roadmap software purchased • Funded by Scottish Enterprise OPTICON Key Technologies Network Grenoble
Future development projects • Plans will follow roadmapping • Need to influence FP7 programme – is it too late? • Must link to international agency funding and priorities eg ESO, ESA OPTICON Key Technologies Network Grenoble
First Workshops • IR Detectors – with industry • Thermal Modelling • Particle Physics models for instrument development? OPTICON Key Technologies Network Grenoble
Other possible topics: • Large optical devices – gratings, lenses, filters • Dimensional Metrology • Cryogenics • Mechanisms – including cryo • Smart Structures • Composites • Interface between electronics & software, FPGAs – control • Systems Engineering • Distributed control and integrated systems OPTICON Key Technologies Network Grenoble
Websites • Twiki in operation • External website requirements not yet defined OPTICON Key Technologies Network Grenoble
Future activities: • Industry Club • Seen as important, but needs funding • Could get industry and national agencies to fund • Knowledge Base • We want to help development groups know what knowledge exists in Europe – both research and industrial groups • Both activities lower priority – will be started once the network has really become productive OPTICON Key Technologies Network Grenoble
Issues for the Opticon Board • What is the scope of Technology in Opticon? • Waveband – 0.4 to 100 micron? • Ground based and Space • What do we mean by Technology • Include systems, software, facilities…. • What should we concentrate on? • My bias is technology for ELT instruments • What timescale? • 5-15 years?
