  1. November progress Report By ; Jessica Hiatt-Geometric Designs

  2. What I Learned I learned a lot in the month of November. I finish researching geometric patterns in the forest, water, city/architect, and the solar system. Unfortunately, my computer crashed and I lost my nearly finish presentation for this month and all the research photos(which I took myself), they are all still in my head and I was able to so far create rough drafts for the solar system and the cityscape geometric art pieces. Form all of this I was able to see how I could create a picture of something using patterns to form it. I learned that it is very hard to draw anything perfect the first time as I had to go back and erase and redraw. By drawling the skyscrapers I taught myself how to sketch buildings much better then when I started. I created somewhat realistic sketches of some well known American buildings; the twin towers, Freedom towers, Empire State building, and the Chrysler building.

  3. Communication with my mentor • I communicated with my mentor, Janye Baker, a lot this month. We talked about the two rough drafts that I had created this month. With this we conversed how geometric influence can be seen in both. We talked of how I could do something water fall related for my water piece. The in vertical lines as water falls down, sticks and branch forming linear and curved lines along the bank of the river, and the circular mist that appears when water falls from great heights. Another discussion we had was what I could do for my snow/ice themed geometric pattern piece. We so far brainstormed that it could be how snow falls down onto objects, a collage of snowflakes over lapping each other, or lastly a tessellation of snow flacks which I feel would be very cool because I do not have a tessellation piece yet. Lastly we observed how I improved greatly in my ability to sketch builds and how we both hope and plan for a continuation of growth.

  4. Pictures • On the left is my rough draft for my solar system themed piece that will probably be called star burst. It is lines that pivot on the same axis creating a star looking shape. The picture on the right shows my rough draft for the cityscape theme piece. It shows some major American buildings with minor buildings in the background, and mountains in the skyline.

  5. Goals for next month • I have many goals for the next month of December. First I plan to finish research for my ice/ snow themed piece as I plan that it will snow down here. If not I also plan to make a trip into the mountains where there will be plenty of snow. I also plan to finish my rough drafts for my last three geometric designs; water, forest, and snow/ice. I will review all my five designs and make touch ups and edits. My mentor and I will evaluate my drafts and talk about what can be removed or added to make them better. They are only my first rough drafts so the finales could look drastically different. If I complete all of this I would like to research prices of the materials I am going to need to buy like spray paint, brushes, tape, and poster board.
