In a food desert, people • Often do not have access to full grocery stores • Turn instead to quick markets that sell inexpensive, processed food • Frequently eat at chain fast food restaurants • Gain weight due to high calorie & fat content in non-fresh foods • Suffer from illness due to lack of nutrients Food Desert: A district with little to no access to fresh food that is vital to maintaining health.
