  2. Calendar • The festival of Holi is only celebrated on the night of the full moon in winter. • Phangula is the twelfth month of the year and it heralds the spring season.

  3. Festivals • While the people are celebrating the festival, of Holi they forget about the caste system and gender differences.

  4. Culture • The dances of India have a rich history.

  5. Food • The important foods in India are: • Wheat • Rice • Lentils

  6. Influences for the Arts • Music is very important to the religious people. It is played during social gatherings.

  7. Music • Common instruments are: • Tambourines • Flutes • Drums

  8. Celebrations • There are two national holidays in India; Independence Day and Republic Day

  9. Songs/Poetry • The first poem in India came from the Bhagaved Gita. • It was sung in groups.

  10. Early Art • One of the best pieces of early art in India are the great caves which were carved in 500 AD.

  11. Dances • They have many dances in India. Dances can be danced for religious reasons and for happy occasions.
